Oh, but it is. And the proof is this: everyone has their own names. We don't find it difficult to call people by their names, to learn them and apply them appropriately. We, rightly, find it somewhere on the spectrum from oblivious to downright disrespectful and insulting when someone uses the wrong name for us, forgets our name or mispronounces it. Pronouns are similar, and attempts to somehow cast them as different are really just an excuse for laziness.

This is Powell's problem - a post-rationalization attempting to argue for the way he wish the world was. It's a problem a lot of crypto-bros have, indeed it underpins much of the so-called 'philosophy' behind crypto: if only you let me do whatever I find easiest, everything would be better! But it eschews a truthful look at the costs incurred by 'whatever I find easiest', and further eschews looking at who carries those costs.

Respecting other people can feel tiring. It can feel impractical and at odds with 'personal freedom'. The crypto-bro culture is increasingly defined by normalizing disrespectful forms of interaction in the name of libertarian philosophy, but in truth there is nothing high-minded about it. There isn't even anything particularly energy-efficient about it - the mishagus going down at Kraken is a lot of words, energy, money and time being burned on something that really has little to do with their core mission. At the end of the day, when he says 'being free to say offensive things' is a core company value, he's really saying, "My name is Jesse Powell, pronouns are lazy/selfish."
